Applications are now open for the esteemed 4th Cohort of the Kofi Annan Global Health Leadership Fellowship Programme. This initiative, spearheaded by the Africa CDC in collaboration with the African Union and the Kofi Annan Foundation, is a testament to their commitment to fostering diverse and skilled public health leadership across the African Union Member States. With the introduction of a new Mental Health track, the programme invites Public Mental Health Professionals, especially those in senior government or National Public Health Institutes (NPHIs) roles, to apply, with a strong emphasis on encouraging women candidates.
A Commitment to Developing Public Health Leaders
Launched on 25 May 2020, the Africa CDC – Kofi Annan Global Health Leadership Programme is designed to nurture senior public health professionals from African Union Member States. These professionals are expected to lead and implement a new public health order in Africa and mentor the next generation of public health leaders on the continent.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for the Fellowship, applicants must:
- Nationality: Be citizens of an African Union Member State.
- Educational Background: Possess a postgraduate degree in a relevant field in public health.
- Professional Experience: Have at least 10 years of professional experience in public health.
- Current Employment: Be in full-time employment in any area of public health in Africa.
- Leadership Potential: Demonstrate a track record or potential for effective public health leadership.
Fellowship Benefits
The Africa CDC will cover all costs associated with the fellowship, including:
- Learning and development materials

Fellowship Details
The 12-month programme offers advanced public health leadership training, focusing on skills such as health diplomacy, change management, and policy influence. Fellows will receive guidance from experienced experts and develop competencies in various leadership styles, strategic visioning, global leadership attributes, and navigating public health practice complexities.
Fellowship Format
- Hybrid Learning Methodology: A mix of self-directed learning, webinars, lectures, and case studies.
- Personal Development Plan (PDP): Spanning 12 months, including institutional residential placements.
- Home Country Training: Fellows will continue their regular work while completing courses and a leadership challenge project.
- Mentorship: Each Fellow will be matched with experienced mentors and coaches.
